The Cyprus Institute and Ca' Foscari University of Venice
«La Lettera e il Leone» is a research project on the epigraphic cultures of Renaissance Venice, with a specific focus on the island of Cyprus. The project delves into the written communication strategies of the Serenissima in its maritime territories, also known as the Stato da mar.



This project is generously supported by the Veneto Region and is coordinated by Lorenzo Calvelli, Professor of Roman History and Latin Epigraphy at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice. In Cyprus, the project is carried out in cooperation and accordance with the Department of Antiquities of the Republic of Cyprus and with the technological and scientific support of The Cyprus Institute - STARC. Other strategic partners include the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia (Cyprus), the Ateneo Veneto in Venice, the Dante Alighieri Society in Nicosia, and the Agios Epiphanios Academy in the Famagusta district.
